Great review for "Infest" by Roger Batty

Segment Aura - Infest [Sweet solitude - 2011]

“Infest” is the second release from this highly consistent & rewarding Russian Federation based HNW project. This mini album consists of two ten minute plus tracks that mix together HNW with subtle hints of creative and brutally overloaded electronica, lo-fi industrail & beat bound electronic textures.
Up first we have the 10.13 of "Guzzle", and this starts out with muffled and slowly disappearing trails of  electro beat patterns, before coming to a sudden screaming feed back sear around minute mark. The track then jumps into an active & shifting mixture of: juddering noise tones, looped feed back thobs, buried & overloaded almost percussive textures that flit between sounding like ‘on it’s last legs’ drum machine textures or tried machine churn ‘n’ judder. There’s also a small dab of overload vocals added into the track in its first few minutes, but mainly the track locks down into an industrail tinged wall making with some shift in it.
The second & last track is entitled “Resistance” and comes in at 15.04 mark. And this track is buit around juddering, lo-fi and semi rymic reeling or spooling static textures. The ‘wall’ brings to mind an erratic & semi overload electronic type writer or telelex machine shorting and reeling away. There are no great shifts or alterations in the track sound map, but  from time to time off patterns are fed into the mix or sudden layer of the wall is stripped out. All told it’s a great track & it really churns you head in a great lo-fi yet brutally manner.
So another very worthwhile release from this project that mixes together HNW with subtle traces of  lo-fi electronics & industrial texturing.   The only downside is it does feel a little short, pity there couldn’t have been another track added, that said I guess it’s best to get two consistent tracks instead of two great tracks & one not so great track.

4/5
